39 People in Tebet Lost Their Homes

Fire ravaged four houses in dense settlement on Jalan Dr Saharjo, RT 03/04, Menteng Dalam Urban Village, Tebet Sub-District, South Jakarta, Monday (7/21). No casualties in this incident, but 11 households consist of 39 people lost their homes and had to take refuge in refugee tent.

The fire was finally extinguished in 45 minutes after 15 fire trucks from South Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Sub-Department arrived in location.

“Arrived in location, we immediately localized the fire core to prevent the fire from spreading to other houses. There are four houses burned, one of them was a big house with many doors. Temporary cause of fire is electricity short-circuit,” stated Head of South Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Sub-Department Operational Section.

Soon afterwards, South Jakarta Social Sub-Department recorded the data of fire victims.

“The big house where fire first burst was turned into small rented houses inhabited by 30 souls. We have prepared 50 meals packages for them to break the fast and for pre-dawn meals (sahur) tomorrow. Next, we’ll record the data of children who need school uniforms,” uttered Head of South Jakarta Social Sub-Department Social Aid Section, Sumadi.
